OPEN MEETING 14th September 2011

East Berwickshire U3A welcomed some of their new and returning members to the first Open Meeting talk. The first in the series of programmed talks was given by two PhD students studying at the Royal Observatory Edinburgh. The speakers were excellent and they gave a brief introduction of the history, it's early beginnings and it's contribution to astronomy, both in terms of astronomical instrumentation and scientific research. Questions from the audience were encouraged and even the speakers learnt something from the knowledgeable members. Unfortunately we could not recruit the young speakers as members as they were not retired or semi retired but they hope the EBU3A is still going strong when it is their turn as they have already picked some of the group activities they want to join.
